Madison Christian Church

Devotional- April 20, 2015

To Our Church Family and Friends,

The Tennessee “Social” Club (a.k.a. Swingers Club) has been blocked from obtaining a permit to open in Madison due to the quick action of many Christians from local churches.   Lawmakers made it illegal for a sexual business to open within 1,000 feet of a school and changed the zoning code so that a private club could not open in an area zoned for office usage.

The Swingers Club is now going through the process to become a church called the United Fellowship Center.  This is obviously a mockery of Christians individually and the body of Christ at large.

They are doing what we should expect from people who “worship” sexual immorality and are hostile to God.  As Dostoevsky said, “If there is no God, everything is permissible.”  So from their perspective it’s not blasphemous because there is no God to blaspheme.  We see it as blasphemous and will do what we can legally to oppose this evil influence in our community.

One of the greatest things we can do, is to live our lives pleasing to God in this area of sexual ethics.   Paul told the church in Thessalonica, “For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter;” (1 Thess. 4:2-6).  He went on to say God has given us His Holy Spirit.   In other words, if we are Christians, we cannot use the excuse, “We are merely humans and cannot control ourselves.”  If we are in Christ, God has given us His Spirit who shows His presence (in part) through self-control (Gal. 5:22,23).

While we are striving to live lives pleasing to God and show the beauty of God-honoring sexual morality, let’s also pray for God to convict those who prefer Godless sexual immorality.  Let’s pray that He will overwhelm them with His love for them and change their hearts.
