What do you think of this popular Christian slogan?: “If you don’t feel close to God anymore – guess who moved?”  The implied answer is – “You did.”  That sounds right doesn’t it?  But what about the fact that maybe God moved and you just didn’t follow.  Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matt. 16:24).

So Jesus told us to follow Him.  If He was staying put, there’d be no need to follow.  By telling us to follow Him, He was indicating He is going somewhere.  So if we stay where we are at and He moves we will not feel close to Him.  If we are not as close to Him as we used to be, it may be that we aren’t following Him when he offered to lead us to something new.

I read this and can’t remember who wrote it:  “We need to ask the Lord to lead us in ways we do not know, along unfamiliar paths to get us to where we need to be.  Perhaps your unknown is parenting, adoption, retirement, unemployment, or disease.  Maybe the Lord needs to lead you into developing character and virtues in which you need to grow like trust, patience, endurance, selflessness, mercy, or self-discipline.  It could be that He wants to lead you into sharing your faith with neighbors, overcoming ethnic barriers, or daring ministry that you never dreamed you could do.”

Most of us should pray something like this:  “Lord lead me to some new stuff or renew my attitude about the stuff you have me doing already.”
