There are different directions in worship. When we get together each Sunday to worship, at least four things take place: 1. We bless God; 2. God bless us; 3. We bless one another; 4. We may even bless an unbeliever who walks in our midst. All of these directions have a Biblical basis. But there is one direction that we must never ignore.
We have to be so careful that we not fall into the sin of worshiping in ritual only. God told His covenant people this several times through the prophets. In Amos 5:21-23 God made it sound as if He would not accept their offerings or their songs of praise IF they came from people who had detached their rituals from their hearts.
Every Sunday we should examine ourselves on our way to worship, to see if we are approaching this sacred time with a sense of awe and love for God. This is why we read where Paul spoke of the need to take all of our concerns and cares to God so that He will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6,7).
