Madison Christian Church

Devotional Sept. 17, 2018

What did Jesus mean in Matthew 5:13, 14 when He said, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

I know of a Christian Church in FL where every Sunday they have their normal scheduled Bible School and Worship services. But they also have a service every Sunday at 8:30 A.M. for homeless people in their community which they follow up with a hot meal for those who attend. As a result, they’ve actually baptized prostitutes and alcoholics. They have seen families rescued. A baby was given up by a homeless couple and adopted by a Christian family in the church.

I am encouraged and challenged by that as I see this church striving to be salt & light in their city. At MCC we are exploring ways we can fulfill that call of Jesus here in the Madison area. Here are a couple of upcoming events in which we can be salt & light:

  • Partnering with Well House Church in Goodlettsville and other volunteers in this area to build a new playground in a low-income area between Madison and Goodlettsville. The address is 360 Pleasant Green Dr. They need 100 local volunteers to make this happen. It is on Wednesday Sept. 26th from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.   They can use people of all levels of skill and ability. If you’re interested you need to register (I will be there).   Go to to register.
  • Sunday October 21st – Community Night of Worship and Prayer  over our city, city officials, schools, public servants and fire & rescue personnel. We will participate in this also with Well House Church in Goodlettsville at the City Hall Lawn by the gazebos. Food Trucks & Kids area open at 5:30 P.M. Worship will begin at 6:30 P.M.

Please pray about making the time to participate with us in this effort. Allow me to encourage you to not put it off and then hear about it later and regret not having been part of one or both of these efforts. It is about trying to expand God’s kingdom and doing His work as we have been called to be salt & light.
