Madison Christian Church

Devotional – September 22, 2014

2014 has been a year of difficult things and mediocre things and GREAT things.  It was difficult to see dad go to be with the Lord.  That was great for him and difficult for our family.  But we are happy for him.  It was a mediocre year in many unimportant ways – my football team was and is mediocre and my golf game is mediocre on my good days.

But I say 2014 has been a year of some GREAT things for this reason: our elders have been working on developing what our ambitions are (call it “vision” if you wish) for Madison Christian Church.  A verse that comes to my mind as we have been talking about this is Colossians 1:28 – “Him (Jesus) we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” (ESV).  Our mission statement describes the way we are striving to fulfill the great commission given by Christ in Matt. 28:18-20.  In order to do this as a church body, we must work toward presenting ALL of you (us included) as MATURE in Christ.  Paul said in vs. 29 “For this I toil, struggling with all His energy that He powerfully works within me.”

To present the Christians at MCC mature in Christ, here’s what we want to focus on:  INVOLVEMENT IN SERVING – we want to see every Christian at MCC serving in some capacity and we will work to provide such opportunities (many are already in place);  PERSONAL GROWTH – we want to see every Christian at MCC involved in daily Bible reading and prayer and growing in knowledge of and obedience to God’s word.  In 2015 we are going to offer a congregation-wide, read-through-the-Bible plan.  We hope to develop a study for people to get together to discuss what they’ve been gleaning from their time in the word each week;  EVANGELIZING THE LOST – we want to see our church members making efforts to reach lost people for Christ and reaching out to people who had been followers of Christ but are currently without a church home.  We are also exploring an opportunity to work with a local effort of other Christians in Madison to provide Tutoring to elementary school children.  We hope this will be a bridge to reach families looking for a church home in Madison as we “Contribute to our Community”.

These are some things that have been talked and prayed about in our elders meeting – along with praying for the needs of many of you within our church family.  Pray for us as we pray for you.  Pray that together we will become a place where we are presenting one another MATURE IN CHRIST.
